Fall 2010 - What to Wear

I've had a few questions recently about what to wear for fall portraits, so I thought I would share my guidance on the blog.  I also include these details in the session information packets that are received before the session date:

Textures, Details, Layers and Accessories!
These accents add visual interest to photographs.  Texture and details, like chunky sweaters; ruffles; buttons; and embroidery, and accessories such as hats; headbands; scarves; necklaces; shoes; tights; and leggings add depth to photos.  Plus, they're some of my favorite details to photograph!

Don’t be afraid of colors!
Try picking a few colors and sticking to them for the entire family, but also add variety by considering texture, patterns, and layers.  Dark jeans are always a good choice that can link everyone’s coordinating clothes.  Try to keep each family member a little unique while staying within the same color scheme.

Here's one idea for family attire for a fall session, using plums, grays, and blues.  Aside from the mom's clothes, which are available at Anthropologie and Piperlime, all of the clothing is found at Gap/BabyGap/GapKids.  I absolutely love plum for fall, but other great color schemes may include orange, chartreuse, or navy, among many other possibilities.  My advice? ...  Have fun with it!
